Okay, so the PROS first:This feels solid, not cheap plastic like my other printer. Both the top and the paper tray drawers also feel solid, not floppy, which is a noticeable problem if you look at printers in a chain store (some of the drawers feel like they'd break off easily). So, that makes it feel like quality. It looks good. It comes with a sample pack of paper, which is helpful (see below on why). The ink cartridges are extra-large capacity so they don't need to be changed as often, and single color replacements are possible (see more on that below too). CONS: First off, I had trouble even at Office Max finding paper for this beyond the sample pack. Not sure why, but that may be an issue for you. Also, I used to think single color replacements were great, and that they'd save money. Not so, because if one color (say, cyan or magenta) is running out, it's not going to compensate. You will get a warning and then none of the colors, not even black,... There are many things I like about this printer, but there are two big features that make it a big improvement over my incumbent printer, a HP Photosmart C5280, it can actually print letter sized photos on glossy photo paper, and it's networkable. While I could load photo paper into the smaller HP, its rollers were never up to the task of pulling such heavy weight paper through, something this one does with ease. Thus the largish photos of my kids now gracing my office walls. In the past, I was always grabbing the USB cable for my old printer out of my wife's keyboard, and plugging it into my keyboard, printing something and then promptly forgetting to return the cable to my wife's computer. And then she would call me at work, wondering why the printer wasn't working. Now, I don't have to remember, any of the Macs or the WIndows computer in the house can send a print job to the printer. Based at the price of ink at my local price club, consumables are not bad per... Epson Work Force 7010Be warned this is a large printer, that is to be expected when you see that it can print large format paper but it was still a bit surprising to get it out of the box and see how big it really is. 22 x 16.3 x 10.4 inches ; 27.1 pounds Installation on my network through Ethernet went well. My only caution on that is that the first screen that identifies the printer shows the printer greyed out. I discovered that you just push through, hitting next and finally it all installs and lets you print a test page. The first test page took several minutes. After that the test pages from the other two computers were quite prompt. I installed the software on an Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP machines. All worked fine, saw the printer and printed out beautifully. I printed out some photos on glossy paper and they were also beautiful. I know from past experience that Epson printers actually do print out better on Epson... Read more |
